October 2 is the birthday of rocket scientist and occultist JACK PARSONS (1914-1952). A college dropout, he cofounded the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). He was also a devout occultist. Parsons was the leader of the California branch of Aleister Crowley's Thelemite Ordo Templi Orientis. He would perform a ritual invoking the god Pan before every rocket experiment. With his friend, L. Ron Hubbard, he conducted the Babalon Working, a series of rituals designed to invoke the Thelemic goddess Babalon to Earth.
